Shih Tzu

Temperament:
Shih Tzus are known for their friendly and outgoing nature. They are particularly good with families, exhibiting a sweet and affectionate disposition. They are also quite alert but generally not aggressive, making them poor watchdogs but excellent companions.

Lifespan: Typically, Shih Tzus live between 10 to 16 years. With proper care, they often enjoy a long, healthy life.

Care:

  • Diet: A balanced diet suited to their age, size, and activity level is essential. They can be prone to obesity, so portion control is important.
  • Exercise: Moderate daily exercise like short walks or play sessions will suffice. They enjoy being active but do not require extensive exercise.
  • Health Care: They require regular veterinary check-ups with particular attention to their eyes and breathing, as they can develop respiratory issues and other complications typical of brachycephalic breeds.
  • Grooming: Their long, luxurious coat requires daily brushing to prevent tangles and regular professional grooming.
  • Environment: They do well in apartments and houses alike, as long as they have a comfortable space to relax and are not left alone for long periods.
